Hello! My name is Brianna Curtis.
Midwifery is in my heart and soul. Midwifery runs deep in my roots dating back to the late 1800s so you could say this calling chose me, as I am a 4th generation midwife. In 1994, I witnessed my mama birth my baby brother at home. It was magical to see birth even as a young seven-year-old. Growing up the daughter of a midwife has given me a unique perspective on the strength of women and what an awesome responsibility it is to share in this profound moment in their lives. Since that realization, I never considered anything else.
Growing up watching my mom empower and help these beautiful families grow made sense, I knew it’s what was in my heart. To me her leaving dinners or holidays always meant she was going somewhere special, it was never a disappointment for me. I began birth assisting with my mom in early 2006, still a senior in high school. This lit something fierce within me that solidified that this is what I would be doing for the rest of my life.
Not long after graduating high school, I did some traveling and adventuring and had my own babies in 2008 and 2011. I finished my nursing prerequisites and shortly after that, started midwifery school when my youngest was 6 months old. Being a midwife is the most rewarding job. It energizes me on the hardest of days. While babies are the sweetest love you can feel, it is the bellies, the undeniable strength of these women doing the hardest thing they will ever do and watching the whole family’s change - kids becoming loving siblings, partners becoming dads, and parents becoming grandparents in these special, fleeting moments. From hearing the first heartbeat, to women reaching out to hold their baby for the first time after laboring tirelessly to give their baby the very best start in life. It is something magical that is difficult to put into words. I feel so fortunate to have worked so many years side by side with my mama and I continually learn from her and am happy to share her heart and passion for growing families. In just 8 short years of being a Licensed Midwife and Certified Professional Midwife I have caught over 1200 babies; no two deliveries are the same. Each one special to me in their own way. I can’t not wait to watch your belly and family grow.
